Objectives and Task Assignments of Research Projects Department

This department, aiming at supporting the researchers, increases the research capacity of the faculty members and staff, organizes and manages all the faculty research projects. One of the most important roles of this department is to review and evaluate research projects based on determined priorities and to support their implementation.

Research Council

Task Assignment of Abadan University of Medical Sciences Research Council

Definition:

The University Research Council is the highest authority in which all research policies and preliminaries of the university (as described in its duties) are determined and explained.

Organizational Chart of the Council:

 The University Research Council consists of the following members in accordance with the Statute of the University Management (approved by the Cultural Revolution Staff):

A. University Research Assistant

 B- Director of University Research Affairs

C) Research assistants or faculty representatives with the consent of the Research Assistant

D) Heads of university-affiliated research centers approved by the University Development Council.

Duties of Research Council:

• Conducting necessary studies to evaluate the research activities of the Faculty

• Conducting necessary reviews of submitted projects for research activities

• Establishing and maintaining contact with local and foreign universities in order to attract research collaborations

• Distribution and allocation of scholarships awarded to members of the teaching and research faculty

• Review and approval of research regulations

• Investigation of distribution and allocation of research grants

Central Council of Student Research Committee of Abadan

Article 9 - Definition:

The Council, elected by the Committee, which is considered as the policy as well as decision-making body of the Committee within the policies of the Ministry of Education and the University.

 

 Article 10 - Election:

 The members of the Central Council are elected by the General Assembly for one year.

  Note 1 - The number of members of the Central Council, according to the number of faculties and students of each university, under the supervision of the head, has to be determined in such a way that it includes at least one or a maximum of 15 members of each faculty.

   Note 2- The head supervises the Central Council, so she/he shall be present in the meetings of the Central Council.

   Note 3: The meetings of the Central Council shall be convened by half plus one member, and voting shall be by secret ballot.

 

Article 11 - Duties:

1. Decision-making on matters concerning the Committee and on matters not foreseen in the Statute

2. Annual policy making of the Committee within the policies of the Ministry of Education and the University

3. Proposal to elect a secretary to the head

4- Proposal to appoint the head to research assistant

 

5. Determining the type of units referred to the Committee according to the University requirements

6- Holding annual meetings of the General Assembly and, if necessary, proposing the Central Council at any time.

Library Intro

In line with the policies of libraries regarding the dissemination of information to the individuals as one of the main pillars of research and education, the central library of Abadan University of Medical Sciences meet their demands having access to scientific resources at any time and place.  This library served as the Faculty of Nursing in 1993. Then, after separating from Jondishapour University, it officially began to operate as a central library that included resources for nursing, medicine, medical practice, laboratory sciences, environmental health, occupational health, public health, medical librarianship, medical emergency, oral hygiene and anesthesia.

Scientometrics

Unit Introduction

Scientometrics is the study of examining the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of scientific information and studies as well as evaluating and comparing it on the basis of internationally valid scientific outputs of countries, organizations, and individuals.

 The basis of scientometrics is the examination of four main variables: published scientific reports, references to the results of a post-publication scientific research, resources used in scientific research, and the work experience and institutional affiliation of researchers and authors. After examining these variables, presenting a suitable combination of the indicators based on them, Scientometrics determines and explains the science process of scientific production and efficiency of scientific research. Generally, Scientometrics can be considered as the knowledge of calculation and analysis of science. Studies show a significant growth of Iranian scientific products in recent years, especially in the field of medical sciences.

Scientometrics Department of Abadan Faculty of Medical Sciences has started its activities since June 2015. The department aims at determining the scientific status of the faculty through continuous evaluation of the faculty's scientific products as well as improving their quality and quantity and promoting the academic status of the faculty.

Ethics Committee on Biological Research

Given the increasing progress of the medical sciences and the quantitative and qualitative promotion of medical science research, the emphasis on adherence to religious, legal and ethical standards in research, the implementation of various research projects, including research on human beings, and the collection and retention of information, raise concerns about abusing and harming human beings and disregarding ethical standards in designing and executing plans and illegally exploiting this information. Therefore, in order to prevent possible abuses in the 1947 Nuremberg and 1975 Helsinki and 1978 Belmont Statements, principles, rules and standards were adopted and countries were advised to apply these codes of ethics in biological science research. This was also raised at the 18th World Health Organization EM / ACHR conference in 1995 ( Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), where the National Biological Research Ethics Committees in all countries of the region adopted and approved the National Code of Ethics in Medical Research.

Observing ethical principles in all researches, especially human research, is indispensable, so the purpose of this committee is to monitor ethics and standards of Shari'a regarding all kinds of research in the faculty.

Introducing RCC Research Advisory Center

History

Abadan University of Medical Sciences Vice Chancellor for Research, Education and Research was established in 2016, with the assistance of Dr. Mohammad Nouri (Vice Chancellor for Education, Research and Technology of the University), Mr. Reza Malihi (Director of Research and Technology of the University at the time) and Dr. Mahshid Naghash Pour (Head of Research Advisory Center). Currently, this center is located in the building of Vice-Chancellor for Education, Research and Technology of Abadan University of Medical Sciences, opposite Ayatollah Jamie Abadan International Airport, serving a variety of research and computer consulting services to all respected researchers, professors and students of the university.

The Research Advisory Center operates in:

Services of Statistical and Epidemiology Consulting, Proposal and Article Writing Consulting, Laboratory and Instrumental Analysis Consulting, Animal Studies, Research in Education, Research Ethics, Scientometric and Computer Services and Photo and Poster Editing.

Consulting Units

Introducing RCC Research Advisory Center

The Research and Computer Consulting Center consists of 8 consulting units:

* Statistics and Epidemiology Advisory Unit

With the collaboration of faculty members and specialists in statistics and epidemiology, this unit is prepared to assist in the early stages of conducting research projects in areas such as:

1. Determining the objectives, hypothesis, type of research, variables, sampling method and questionnaire design for research design and research project writing.

2. Determining the sample size and sampling methods

3. How to prepare questionnaires and information forms

4. Determining the validity and reliability of questionnaires and other materials related to the research design

5. At the end of research projects, statistical tests such as comparing means and ratios between study groups, descriptive statistics, regression, analysis of variance, factor analysis, analysis of covariance, etc., are implemented using SPSS , EPI, SSC Power Software help them analyze the results.

 

* Proposal Counseling and Writing Unit

Counselling on:

1. The structure and syntax of writing proposals and scientific articles (English and Persian)

2. Presenting research results in scientific articles

 

* Laboratory Consulting and Machine Analysis Unit

1. The purpose of this unit is to provide laboratory advice to researchers using laboratory methods (biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, etc.) in their research.

2. These services are provided by laboratory and genetic science specialists (utilizing specialists from other universities including Ahvaz Medical Sciences).

 

* Animal Studies Unit

1. Providing advice to researchers using the laboratory animals (rats) as a sample in their research.

2. Introducing the methods of capturing laboratory animals and handling to students and researchers

3. Introducing the methods of keeping a laboratory animals in a pet home to students and researchers

4. Introducing the anesthesia of rats to students and researchers

5. How to use medical physiology study devices such as a rat treadmill

6. How to take EKG and rat blood pressure

 

* Research in Education Unit

The purpose of this unit is to provide advice to faculty members, researchers and other stakeholders in the field of medical studies such as curriculum planning, educational evaluation, and so on.

 

*Research Ethics

1. Consulting research projects regarding observing ethical codes in research

 

*Scientometric

Advising students, faculty and other staff in the following areas:

1. How to search databases

2. How to choose the right international journals and submit articles

 

* Computer services and photo and poster editing

Advice on:

1. Designing and editing posters for papers to be presented at conferences inside and outside the country and prepared in ready-to-print file formats.

2. Photo correction and editing in order to use in scientific journals and educational lectures using graphical software

3. Providing computer slides for educational and scientific applications using up-to-date software

4. Consulting data entry for research questionnaires

5. Advice on writing papers and theses
